WCF Interior Decorating Committee Report
Post date: Aug 26, 2013 9:20:49 PM
Many visitors to the WCF ask what they can do to help keep the place in good shape so all family members can continue to enjoy it for years to come. Below is the list of projects as identified by the Decorating Committee (Ellen Lynch, Debbie Chrisman, Mary Higgins). If you are interested in helping in some way - either through your skilled labor or your generous contribution - please contact a Committee member to confirm your interest and receive guidance on how to do so.
THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE - Check wiring in all lamps.
Replace all lamp shades with new ones.
GRANDMA TRUDY'S ROOM - The doors should be painted
a marine grey-blue to match the woodwork. The built-in chest
should be repainted to match the woodwork as should the stair
risers going into the ping pong room which would make the steps
more visible. The blue and white bedspreads would complement
the paint color and lighten the room. We didn't feel curtains were
necessary.
BATHROOM - The linoleum could be replaced, the chest
painted and the woodwork painted to match the chest.
DAISY ROOM - The chairs in both Grandma Trudy's and the
Daisy Room need recovering but these should wait until the committee
decides where the chairs should ultimately be located.
AUNT HESTER/GRANDMOTHER BROWN'S ROOM - Paint
the ceiling. New wallpaper should be selected similar to what is in
there (white background with flowers) and paint the woodwork and
doors white. It appears there are an adequate number of ruffled
dotted-Swiss curtains (including those in the Telephone Room) that
are in pretty good shape or may just need a bit of mending to use in
Aunt Hester/Grandmother Brown's Room, Aunt Fran & Uncle Don's
Room and Aunt Avis's Room.
AUNT FRAN & UNCLE DON'S ROOM - Paint the ceiling and
select new wallpaper again similar to what is in there now (blue with
flowers). Paint the woodwork and doors white. The cracked window
pane needs replacing.
UPSTAIRS HALL, STAIRWELL AND DOWNSTAIRS HALL -
Remove the wallpaper and paint the walls a taupe color. Paint the
woodwork (including stair risers) and doors white. The stairs need
refinishing as does the downstairs hall floor. Install a new ceiling light
fixture above the stairs.
AUNT AVIS'S ROOM - Select new wallpaper in creams and
sepias which would complement the photographs. Paint the woodwork
and doors white and replace the rugs with new ones.
BESSIE'S ROOM - New wallpaper and paint colors the same as
Aunt Avis's Room.
WINTER DINING ROOM - Remove the wallpaper and paint
the walls a cream color. New curtains and rug.
TELEPHONE ROOM - Add new curtains.
BATHROOM - Replace the linoleum or paint it. A professional
interior decorator friend of Debbie's told us there is a special paint
that can be used for linoleum flooring. Paint the walls and trim.
LIVING ROOM - Replace the couch. Move the oriental rug now
in front of the couch to in front of the fireplace. Select a new toile
print wallpaper that has soft gold tones (like the color of the rug).
Paint the woodwork and ceiling. Get a new area rug to put in front
of the new couch. Replace the floor lamps.
FRONT PORCH - New cushions for glider. New chairs for screen
porch.
DINING ROOM - Paint the trim woodwork a light green that
matches the light green of the curtains. Move the rug that is now
in front of the fireplace to the dining room (after cleaning the rug).
BEDROOMS - Some of the mattresses and pillows should be
replaced and an inventory of the sheets and pillowcases should be
done. As the bedrooms are re-painted and re-wallpapered, new
bedspreads might be purchased.
SUMMER EATING PORCH - Re-paint the floor (Benj. Moore -
"Gull Wing Gray").
